My Wax Journey

The main question I get is "How in the world did you get into waxing?!" Well, let's take it back to the beginning, when I first became licensed. I worked part time at a commission-based hair salon. I wasn't making enough to live on, so I started looking for other ways to utilize my license. I honestly hadn't even considered waxing but to my luck, a manager for a waxing center noticed me dropping my resumes off to surrounding cosmetology related businesses, she asked me to apply and hired me soon after. It was a serendipitous beginning to my career as a hair removal specialist. I worked at that center, working my way up the ladder until I couldn't grow anymore. At that point, I left to share a studio at Phenix Salons with a former colleague. I shared a space with her until June of 2019, when I opened my own travel inspired, home away from home. I am so in love with my studio, but the best part is being able to share my passions for traveling and waxing with everyone that walks through my door.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GET WAXED

Q: How long should my hair be for my wax?
A: Generally, 1/4" or longer. A grain of rice is 1/4"

1.

Q: How do I prepare?

A: Grow the hair 1/4", stay hydrated, exfoliate, and breathe.

3.

Q: How long does a Brazilian wax last?
A: Most often people see a 3-4 week result but it does vary.

5.

Q: What should I avoid post-wax?

A: Absolutely no tanning for 24 hours after.
No swimming or hot tubs.
Avoid anything that will cause friction in waxed area.
No exfoliating for at least 3-4 days, sometimes longer.

Avoid excessive sweating.

7.

Q: What if I am on my period?
A: That is totally okay, but you must come wearing a clean tampon or Deva Cup.

2.

Q: Will it hurt?

A: Yes, but not as bad as you might expect. Take Advil 30-40 minutes before if you're scared.

4.

Q: What do I do after my wax?

A: Use witch hazel and Bush Balm after every shower and exfoliate 1-2 times a week.

6.

Q: What do I do if I get an ingrown hair?
A: If you can almost get the hair but it is trapped under a layer of dead skin, exfoliate until it comes out, moisturizing after EVERY exfoliation. If the area is inflamed, raised, and/or hurts, use a hot compress on the area, gently knead the bump to break up fluids. Do NOT squeeze or force the fluid or hair out. Repeat compress until bump clears up, use witch hazel and Bush Balm after every hot compress effort.
